Welcome to our Calgary office: Sean Goodwin, (LL.M. Intellectual Property, P.Eng., Patent & Trademark Agent) has an extensive career of over 35 years including 15 years as an engineer working with mechanical devices, electrical and control processes, instrumentation, hydrocarbon processes, and waste treatment. This broad understanding of engineering technology is used to guide his clients through the patent process, and at times educating them on how to market and commercialize their creations. Dr. Susan Rancourt, (LL.B., Ph.D. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Patent Agent) Sue drafts and/or prosecutes patents for many clients in the biotechnological, pharmaceutical and chemical arenas, in addition to oil and gas extraction and processing, and various mechanical technologies. With extensive expertise in the Patented Medicines (NOC) Regulations, Sue has prepared numerous infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions for pharmaceutical clients, and for clients in other technology areas. Andrew Lau, (J.D., B.Sc. Electrical Engineering) a patent agent trainee with a practice focused in the area of intellectual property law. After being called to the bar, Andrew has his sights on a career path that will utilize both his legal education as well as his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. Linda Thompson, (Patent Agent, BLT Biochemistry) Prior to joining both Parlee McLaws, and previously a Calgary based intellectual property boutique, Linda had more than 20 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting, largely specializing in the area of immunoassay. Linda’s ability to understand, retain, and translate complex information to satisfy patent requirements and clients alike has resulted in the granting of numerous patents including those relating to new technologies, equipment and processes for a variety of industries, but largely in the oil & gas industries. Dr. Luke Wang, (Patent Agent, Ph.D. Electrical Engineering) has many years of experience in research and development in Electrical Engineering. Educated in both Canada and China, his particular areas of expertise include wireless communications, signal processing, image processing, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), and Software Engineering, including web technologies, databases, computer networks, and audio/video codecs. Luke is fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin).
