Calgary Articling/Summer Student Employment Program

Calgary 1L Summer Student Employment Program

The Parlee McLaws LLP Calgary office summer student employment program is for first year (1L) law students and adheres to the protocols set in place by the Law Society of Alberta. The Calgary office hires two to three students who have completed their first year of law school.

The primary objective of the summer student program is to introduce the students to the day-to-day practice of law and to Parlee McLaws. Our students are given a wide range of legal assignments similar in nature to those in our articling program. Senior lawyers are appointed as mentors to assist students through their four months of employment and give them exposure to our key practice areas. Informal performance evaluations are provided. The position is full time hours, Monday to Friday – there is no billable time requirement.

Historically, many of our summer students return as articling students and then continue their legal careers as associate lawyers and partners of Parlee McLaws LLP.

Applications should be sent to the Calgary Student Hiring Committee by Monday, January 29, 2024. Please submit a cover letter, resume, undergraduate transcripts, current transcripts that are available for the first term of first year law school and if available, two reference letters (preferably one academic and one work – academic reference letters can be from an undergraduate degree) via viLawPortal or by email as follows:

The Articling Program is 12 months in duration, including time for completion of CPLED. Students are appointed a principal for the length of their articling year and will follow a four-month rotation through all areas of the Firm’s practice areas. Performance evaluations are provided.
